Celebrate your marriage with a celebrant wedding ceremony

If you want to say "I do" in a way that feels right for you, then let me help you with a celebrant-led wedding celebration. The ceremony will be as unique as you are. Whether you're talking marriage, a civil partnership or declaring your commitment to each other, with a celebrant wedding celebration ceremony you can choose when, where and how you make your promises to each other.

You can choose everything about your big day. You can write the vows you make to each other, you can give rings or re-dedicate the rings you have already given, you can choose the readings and music you want to include, you can involve your friends and family as you wish. And you can hold your celebration anywhere. The location doesn’t have to be licensed for marriages, it can be indoors or outside, and you can invite as many guests as your venue can accommodate.

Is a celebrant wedding ceremony  a legal marriage ceremony?

Celebrant wedding ceremonies are not a legal wedding. They are usually held after you've completed the legal formalities, sometimes on the same day but many couples choose to hold it on a separate day. That means you can complete the legal requirements with the registrar at a register office or licensed venue, and then hold your celebration anywhere you want. A wedding celebration is a great option for couples who have had a legal marriage in the UK or elsewhere but who would like to involve friends and family in a really personal celebration ceremony at a later stage. Quite often couples who elope for a very intimate wedding or who tie the knot abroad will have a celebration ceremony when they return home, meaning all their friends and family can share their special day.

How does a celebrant-led ceremony differ from a register office ceremony?

The ceremonies I offer are very different from the ceremony and service you would receive from a register office ceremony. I will take time to talk to you about what's important for your ceremony, if you're planning ahead I'll aim to meet you six to nine months before the big day, and we will have several meetings or conversations over the following months. I will put together an outline for your ceremony, and a timeline for when we need to agree on content. I'm happy to talk to your family and friends, if you'd like me to, so they can be included in the preparation, and give me a really full picture of who you are as a couple.  I will write a bespoke ceremony just for you, and I'll share this with you in advance, so you can check that everything is as you'd want it. If you would like me to keep parts of it secret, so it's a surprise, we can do that too.  Unlike a register-office ceremony, there are no set words or elements that you have to include, and no words or elements that you cannot include. The whole ceremony is written to reflect your relationship, who you are, and what matters to you. And afterwards, I'll present you with a keepsake copy of the service ... a beautifully presented hard copy of the ceremony script, printed on handmade, sustainably sourced paper, for you to look back on in years to come. I think this amounts to a very meaningful and supportive way to prepare for such an important day, and lead to a relaxed and enjoyable day.

Commitment ceremonies and renewal of vows

If marriage or a civil partnership isn’t for you, but you want to declare your commitment to your partner, why not have a commitment or promise of love ceremony? And, of  course, let's not forget how special marriages and relationships become over the course of time. Why not celebrate a long and happy marriage, a relationship that has stood the test of time, overcome difficulties, with an anniversary celebration or renewal of vows ceremony? Show your partner how much you still love them, and what they mean to you.

Whether you want a ceremony that looks and feels traditional but with more choice about what to include, would like to involve family and friends as much as you can, or perhaps you want to do something a little more adventurous, I would love to help make your ceremony really special. I have plenty of ideas, some wonderful contacts and rest assured I'll work with the venue staff, musicians or photographers to make sure all the elements of your day work beautifully together.

What my couples say about me

Don't take my word for it, here are some of the comments I've received from my happy couples ...

"We were so happy with how perfectly everything went on the day, we couldn't have asked for more!
Our guests commented on how lovely the ceremony was and praised how personal and touching you made it for us.
We absolutely loved the script/pack that you gifted us, it is beautiful and will be such a special thing for us to look back on over the years.
You made us, and our wedding, feel so very special and we thank you ever so much. We were so lucky to have you for our day." Lesley and Gary
"Ruth was absolutely amazing from day 1. She was so understanding and supportive throughout Covid having to change our day a few times.
Nothing was too much for Ruth and the attention to detail was second to none. Ruth has such a lovely persona that makes you feel so relaxed and at ease.
Everyone commented on how amazing the ceremony and Ruth was. And the added touch with her presentation box was just the icing on the cake.
I’m so grateful to have found Ruth and I hope she can make as many brides happy as she has me x " Arlee
"A huge thank you from both of us for making Saturday 14th August a day we'll never forget.
Your skill at listening to and interpreting our story, and then translating it into that warm,
eloquent and witty ceremony you gave us on Saturday is truly wonderful.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
Amanda and Kevin
"There are simply not enough words to describe how wonderful Ruth was throughout the entire process.
Not only does she lead a ceremony so brilliantly, with elegance yet warmth, allowing the guests in to really feel a part of it all,
but the way she really took the time to get to know us as a couple leading up to our wedding really made such a difference.
It not only meant so much to us that she truly cared about our ceremony, but by taking the time to ask us questions
about our story and about each other made for such a personable ceremony. Ruth also took the time to help us source
a broom for us to jump, which was above and beyond her duties! After the big day, Ruth then presented us with our vows,
our poems and the whole script from our ceremony on beautiful paper as a keepsake.
We will forever
be thankful for a perfect ceremony that was completely down to Ruth and her seamless planning xxx" Samantha and Jay
Here are a few pictures of wedding celebrations I've led ... I love these two, below, the first was taken in February 2024 at Dodmoor House, Northamptonshire. It was a winter's day barn wedding, this is the point where the bride and groom realise that the vows they've written to each other, and kept secret until now, are virtually mirror images. It was a beautiful moment 🙂 The second was a summer's day country wedding, so many friends and family contributed to the ceremony and the day, to give everything a really personal touch.  And the third shows the point where the bride and groom have just signed a copy of their promises to each other, and as a little surprise, they find a signed message from Dr Who, wishing them well on their wedding ... the bride is a huge David Tennant fan! It just goes to show, it's the little details that make the memories, and everyone loved this little touch!
